Unique operation on a brain has been performed in Crimea for the first time

A prompt microsurgical intervention on the subject of the intractable epilepsy has been performed at the multi-profile republican medical center of the State Budgetary Healthcare Institution “Republican Clinical Hospital named after N.A.Semashko” in Crimea for the first time.

The operation was performed under the leadership of the Director of the clinical and medical center of the Moscow State University of Medicine and Dentistry (MSUMD), Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery and Neurologic Reanimation of the MSUMD, Head Neurosurgeon of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and Professor Vladimir Krylov with the involvement of the specialists of the neurosurgical unit of the Hospital named after N.A.Semashko.

The prompt intervention was accomplished with assistance of intraoperative navigation and microsurgical equipment. The implementation of the operation of such a level was possible owing to the most modern medical equipment, which the neurosurgical unit was rigged with.

As emphasized by Alexander Ostapenko, when Crimean specialists learn and master of the most difficult neurosurgical techniques of the leading neurosurgeon of the country, they will get an opportunity to perform such operations in the Republic of Crimea without delivering the patients with such forms of epilepsy for medical treatment beyond the borders of the republic.

During three years, basing on the agreement with Academician Krylov V.V., we send our colleagues to his center to improve their qualification. Thanks to that, we possess a huge arsenal of neurosurgical operations nowadays”, — Minister said.

The first patient, who came through the most difficult neurosurgical operation, was a person born in 1976. The patient suffered from epilepsy since 1994, as the Press Service of the Ministry of Health of Crimea reported.

The surgery went smoothly and now the patient is in stable condition.
