The development of recommendations to bodies of state authorities, scientific and educational organizations and civil society institutions became a practical problem. The event was highlighted by the Department of the Preparation of Information Materials of the Administration of Information Policy of the Ministry of Information of the Republic of Crimea.
The University of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation together with the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Crimea, Crimean Republican Organization All-Russian Noncommercial Organization “The Law Society of Russia” and Crimean Law Institute, which is the branch of the University of the Prosecutor’s Office of Russia organized the Vth International Scientific Forum “The Nuremberg Trials: history and present time”.
The conference was devoted to the seventy-fifth anniversary of the beginning of conducting the International Military Tribunal (IMT) in the city of Nuremberg. The goal of the arrangement was to elaborate a unified position about the evaluation of Nazis’ crimes, prevention of revisionism and diminution of decisions of the Nuremberg Trials, preservation of principles of the Nuremberg process in context of the international law and development of modern approaches connected with the patriotic education of young people.
The Forum started with the round table “No statute of limitations” at the hall of the museum of the fascist occupation of Crimea during 1941-1944 called “Extermination Camp “Krasnyi”. Before the start of the conference, participants laid flowers to the Eternal Flame on the territory of the Memorial and observed a moment of silence in the memory of all victims of the Nazism.
Event guests and participants could see the exposition devoted to the IMT in the city of Nuremberg with the slogan: “Neither Statue of Limitation nor Oblivion” arranged by the Crimean Law Institute (branch) of the University of the Prosecutor’s Office of Russia.
During the event, participants noted that the Nuremberg process became the first lawsuit in the human story, which united many countries in the memory of millions of victims of that dreadful war. Such crimes don’t have a statute of limitations. The Nuremberg Trials exactly gave an assessment of those crimes. The features of crimes against humanity elaborated with the assistance of the Nuremberg Trials determined the concept of genocide and formed the basis for the creation of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide adopted in 1948.
The second part of the arrangement was held on the base of sanatorium and recreational complex “Russia” in Yalta. The participants of the event were representatives of the Council of State of the Republic of Crimea, Council of Ministers of Crimea, scientists, politicians, as well as representatives of public authorities, law-enforcement agencies and community.
The Chairman of the State Committee for the Youth Policy of the Republic of Crimea Sergey Selimov read out words of welcome from the Head of Republic of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov and noticed that the Nuremberg process is not just a page in the history.
“It was during the Yalta Conference the Soviet Union insisted on necessity to try Nazi war criminals in public in accordance with legal regulations. I am sure the holding of the event will contribute to the development of joint approaches and positions on topical issues referred to the preservation of the historical memory, implementation of the patriotic education of young people and comprehension of the results of the Second World War due to the context of the present-day events”, — it is told in the greeting speech.
The development of recommendations to bodies of state authorities, scientific and educational organizations and civil society institutions became a major practical task of the forum regarding the popularization of the history of the XXth century, correct assessment of historical facts, support for the authority of the international law and important reliable information about the outcomes of the Second World War, which is currently tried to make rewritten, as the Nuremberg Trials drew attention of the whole world. The Nuremberg process became not only the retaliation for inhumanity of guilty Nazi adherents involved in committing criminal acts during the World War II, but it is also an unforgettable lesson for future generations.
